Jonava

Jonava district is considered to be one of the smallest districts in its territory in the territory of Lithuania. It is located in a very convenient geographical location, almost in the very center of the country, 35 km from the second largest city in Lithuania, Kaunas. The territory of the municipality borders with Kaišiadorys, Kaunas, Kėdainiai, Ukmergė and Širvintos district municipalities.

There are four rivers flowing through Jonava district – Neris, Šventoji, Lankesa and Širvinta, there are 8 lakes and 4 ponds. There are probably the most foreign names in Lithuania in the district: there are such villages and settlements as: Switzerland, Paris, London, Venice.

The geographical location of the district is convenient in terms of transport: Jonava district municipality is crossed by the international highway Kaunas-Daugavpils, which ensures excellent connection with international transport corridors. In Jonava, the railway highways from Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipėda also intersect, they can reach not only the largest cities of Lithuania, but also the cities of neighboring countries – Latvia, Estonia, Belarus, Ukraine. Kaunas International Airport operates in the town of Karmėlava between Jonava and Kaunas, which can receive and service practically all types of aircraft, and the Neris River flowing through the city creates all the conditions for the development of water transport.

The city of Jonava is located on the banks of the Neris, which is characterized by a pronounced relief. Well-maintained network of streets, parks, squares, bicycle paths, ponds located between residential districts, suburban greenery – are one of the most characteristic features of Jonava city. Educational, health care, cultural and sports facilities as well as conveniently located shopping centers create favorable conditions for work and leisure in Jonava.
